Intelligence (the ability to handle increasingly large amounts of uncertainty and logically predict the likeliest outcome) and creativity (making unapparent connections that have practical value) can only take you so far.  I’ve seen plenty of intelligent, creative people use their intelligence and creativity to advance their own bias and flawed premises, resulting in failure at worst, suboptimal results at best.

Eliminating bias and falsity requires clear perception, which arises from review of data, willingness to test a deduction with small-scale experiments, then clear communication as to why a greater scale experiment—and eventually policy or law—is worth pursuing.

Intelligence and creativity are like the gas pedal on a car.  But perception is the steering, making sure you’re going the right direction in the first place.
