Echo: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel

I’m walking past a playground.  I see one lone nerd making his last stand in dodgeball against a bunch of douchebag bullies.  He’s valiantly fending off volleys of cruel missiles, and for a brief moment I see him in slow motion, like Boromir when he’s getting jacked up by those damn fool Orcs.  I toss him my eReader (open to Echo, of course), and see him enveloped in a magic flash.  His eyes blaze with arcane energies, and his hair flies up in a radiance-soaked tangle.  The bullies flinch momentarily back, eyes widened in fear, then they rally forward and shout, “GET HIM!”  A renewed onslaught of balls flies at their target but he’s flipping, throwing himself into twisting, hand-less cartwheels, kicking each and every ball back at his oppressors with deadly accuracy.  The bullies are getting smashed in the face and the nuts.  As they fall one after the other, the last one starts running.  The powered-up nerd cocks his arm back and turns sideways in an unnervingly smooth pivot as he tracks his target.   When the guy is over a hundred yards away, the nerd spins twice, jumps high in a spinning tornado kick, and lets the ball go with an audible FWOOOSH!  I see the ball rocket into the back of the last douchebag’s head; he goes down like he’s been shot by a sniper.
