Echo-A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel

Most geeks are sweet and awkwardly endearing.  Not the ones that have just taken over the world.  I’m in the collectible-encrusted palace of the self-styled Zardoz the great, a Dungeons and Dragons nerd who has used corporate ass-kissery to rise to power (you DO know they’re all insecure nerds at heart, right?  😉 )  He’s babbling on about twenty-sided dice and swords of power when I’m bought before him, hands behind my back, and made to kneel.   He starts listing my offenses and transgressions in a 100% testosterone-free voice.  My fingers fumble quietly in my pocket.  Open my eReader to Echo.  Magic flash.  My cuffs disappear and I’m running.  As if he was freakin’ Ming the Merciless, Zardoz screams:  “SEIZE HIM YOU FOOLS!”  The latest expansion pack to World of Warcraft appears in my hands and it begins levitating upward in a slow, glimmering drift.  It revolves enchantingly in place and the nerds that are about to pursue me drop to one knee and stare in awe.  One of them murmurs, “By the power of Peter Jackson.”  I make my escape, grabbing an action figure of Batman in his Superman-killing armor on my way out.  (Hey, everyone’s got some nerd in ’em.)
