      I finished drafting it two months ago. I think it’s readable and entertaining, but definitely not where I want it to be. I liken it to a car that can drive and has basic features, but it could use a whole lot of sprucing up. My gut tells me it’ll be ready sometime in the spring. I’m really enjoying polishing it up, though. 😊

        Congratulations! Editing is always the hardest part for me (work stuff) because I worry about changing the meaning or spending so much time rewriting things. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the polishing process!

        I think I know what you mean. The initial stages are where I check to see if I’ve given all the info needed. Then as it progresses, I’m really looking for cadence and rhythm, which means trying to find out where I can omit info and still get the point across, possibly smooth out the tempo even more. It also gets really nitpicky, where I start fussing over the difference between “Then” and “And then,” and ridiculous stuff like that. 😅

    Fantasy isn’t really my thing, but I checked out the “Look Inside” on Amazon and you’re a really good writer! I’m curious enough after the first chapter to read more even if the wizards/witches stuff doesn’t appeal to me. I like your Jon Dough character and fully agree with his take on life. Well done!

      Thank you! I haven’t been interested in fantasy since the 90s, but when I was a kid I used to play Dungeons and Dragons. I wanted to write a story that evoked the novelty, joy, and adventure I feel like every kid should be able to experience. Being a cynical grump is overrated! I should know–I tried it out for a bit! 😅
