The greatest lever we have is strategically employed creativity. Creativity allows for leaps of methodology that reduce effort and overcome obstacles. But in order to be effective, creativity must be buttressed with the basics: meticulousness, discipline, and willingness to account for data and evidence, no matter how contrary or strange it may appear.

Correct me if Im wrong but the idea here is that creativity grows in a disiciplined enviroment that applies your creativity when its needed and not riding it in waves and wondering what happened when its left?

From my experience, it’s like a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it gets. If I encounter a creative block, I read authors I like, and start saying “what if?” creating new premises in my head. The seminal work “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield, along with a host of other creative types, also support this approach to creativity: the artist should discipline themselves to create, even if it’s bad, for bad material can be edited, no material cannot.

I once believed I could use a total novel way of using grammar and punctuation. I discovered I had to master the old before inventing the new.

Indeed I find that a certain time and place and habits, all regular things, settle the part of me that needs structure so that the rest of me can roam the creative landscape in search of what’s next 😊

Indeed! There are some who can use obsession to power their way through to a finished product, but it usually seems to have a negative effect on the rest of their life.
