Musings

As part and parcel of this world, it seems we are all destined to fall at one point or another. The interesting thing to me is when a shift in perspective turns reactivity into empowered responsiveness–when we begin to ascend instead of constantly falling down.

That shift in perspective, in my opinion, might be the crux of free will. It might be the only true choice that we ever really have.

  1. To have free will, we must first be free. And for that, there must be no ‘up’ or ‘down’ – no ‘better’ or ‘worse’. While our attachments enchain us, we have no will: they give us only one ‘right’ answer. And then – when free – we might see that there’s no need to ‘choose’: that everything’s already pretty much alright. No demons – no angels – so sinners – no saints – just life.

  2. Hi Kent! It’s nice to meet you! Freedom of choice is definitely a special gift! I remember my father telling me one time that he wouldn’t want to live in a country where Christianity is the official religion and everyone has to be a Christian even though he is a Christian himself. Why? Because no belief should be forced on people. People should have the freedom to make choices on what they believe, on they want to say, etc.

  3. Agreed — as I see the Universe taking away things that tie me to my current situation, I see a path clearing me to move forward to the next chapter in my life. I need to keep focused on that, plus the here and now.
