Musings

Desire, Ego, and [all things “negative”] are often vilified as mortal enemies.  But from a macroscopic view, they’re natural phenomena arising from our limited states of being.

If left unchecked, they can certainly inflict harm, but I believe that everything have its place.  Not only that, I believe everything has its USE, depending on whether awareness has been honed, and capability has been sharpened.

So in my opinion, a sharp mind and a mature spirit can assess the “negative” for its uses or detriments according to context.  This strips away the dogmatic idea of inherent worth, and propagates the symphonic state of functional harmony.

  1. An ego (conscious thinking self) with desires is what we are. A saint has the desire to serve God. A scientist my have the desire to find a cure for cancer. I think that, where desires become potentially destructive and require management, it is because healthy desires have been unhelpfully frustrated. An unmet need will tend to become ever more determined in its attempts to draw attention and get satisfaction. Sometimes, if we try to make a slave of some aspect of ourselves, it rebels and becomes the master.

  2. I’m not sure that an unhealthy ego is detected by those particular individuals. I guess it would be like many mental challenges. Standing on the Earth, I can only assume it is a planet, as I’ve been told.
