Sometimes it does. There’s real obvious self-defense cases, but I think the more relevant point is that fighting is just imposition of will in an aggressive manner. Every action we take is some attempt to impose our will/philosophy on our environment, so in the greater sense, I don’t think that fighting deserves to be demonized. It’s simply a high rate of energy expenditure for a given context.
