Given what the evidence seems to be telling us—that we are brief dots in an incalculably vast canvas—the idea of “practicality” seems to fall away. But to me this is not an excuse to wallow in wide-eyed wonder, because there are still bills to pay, still goals to accomplish. To me this simply means that while we put our best foot forward, we enjoy ourselves as much as humanly possible, because why the hell not?
Every moment is awe and wonder as I strive to maximise it!

In our limited life spans, that’s the only way to live that makes sense! 🙂

I think Stephen Covey got it right when he described our ‘sphere of influence’. If some situation exists outside the sphere, we can either ignore it (because we can’t make any difference to it), or we can strive to increase our sphere, make it encompassing. That second option is about personal growth, but growth in a context that is personally meaningful. Enjoyment, awe, wonder – these and many more are meaningful for most of us.

In the end I’d say it’s just about being happy with our choices. With our limited lifetimes, it seems that that is the only prudent choice. 🙂

And never think you are too old to be awestruck or have ambitions

Point! If time is not in actuality a one-way flow, then what matters is working with what you have instead of focusing on being “too old” or “not in the right place”

My own personal perspective: The messages in the Bible (not the literal several times translated words), Cosmology and Quantum Physics make for a pretty impressive mix.

Totally! I think that people are just starting to see the underlying common messages between the religions, and that the quirks we fight are because we forget that those religions were created in a specific context for a specific time for a specific culture. Sifting specifics from generalities is, IMHO, a key life skill.
