Echo: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel

I’m the only accounting major, and the faculty breaks me off from the others that are taking a campus tour. ย They lead me into a dark, shuttered building. ย The head of accountingโ€”bald, bespectacled, no jawline and exactly 1 ng/ml ofย testosteroneโ€”gestures at a seemingly empty room. ย “And here’s where our grad students learn. ย Would you like to look inside?” ย Before I can say no, he shoves me forward. ย “GET IN THERE!” ย I stumble in, the door shuts behind me, and suddenly I hear what sounds like a million skittering roaches. ย I look up; sunlight-deprived grad students are scuttling across the ceiling on all fours, pale and withered, bearing a striking resemblance to Gollum. ย Their heads turn completely around and look at me. ย Their eyes light sickly yellow as they hiss, then they’re dropping from the ceiling. ย I backpedal, turning over desks and chairs. ย One catches my back leg, and I fall to the floor, desperately opening my eReader to Echo. ย Magic flash. ย The windows blow inward, flooding the room with all that is Manโ€”comics, squat racks, ninjas, laser gunsโ€”and the accountants-to-be begin screaming in terror. ย Their skin melts off in a boiling hiss and what do you know, a grappling gun lands by my feet. ย I fire it out a window, latch onto a bat-glider, and I slingshot away. ย Saved!

  2. Hi, Kent, thank you for stopping by my blog.
And I quite like your style. There are days when I write like this, well, may be not as well, but along the same line of thought… you know, taking the mundane to the absurd. I love it, those who read my stuff at that time think I have lost it… but its fun. Will definitely be visiting regularly. Glad to have met!
