When I’ve done all I can and I’m waiting for improvement, I try to reside in a positive daydream, or—if that feels forced/false—stop caring altogether.

Either one is better than worrying—that just makes the journey miserable.

  4. Worrying is what you do when you can’t actually do anything about the situation, so it’s counter-productive. When faced with a problem I try to solve it, but if I can’t I try, like you, to either think about something I can do, or pleasant thoughts or daydreams. Stopping caring altogether is more difficult, though.

    1. Absolutely! Distracting myself a bit at a time is pretty doable though.

  5. Good day. I believe it’s the discipline that shows. If we spend twenty or so minutes imagining scenarios, we can prepare, but if we deliberately overthink, we become fatigued. On the other hand, those that don’t ponder the possibilities at all get caught by surprise. So I’d give it some thought, with discipline. It takes just as much effort to do something as it does to refrain from doing so. Not caring or letting it go both take self-control. Nice to see you back, and congratulations on your achievement.
