I’m in the financial district, the clock strikes noon, and the windows of every high rise burst with middle managers that have just shed their human bodies, revealing praying mantis heads sitting atop suit-and-tie adorned torsos.  They scamper over the buildings’ faces in a bent-limbed scramble, just like Spider-man.  The National Guard is there, firing into the flood of Mantis-people, but soldiers are falling by dozens under insectoid claws.  I open my eReader to Echo.  Magic flash.  A squadron of black gunships appear over the horizon and start blasting the managers with a flurry of gunfire and missiles, knocking them from the buildings.  Jedis leap from the helos and start slicing through carapaces with a dazzling blend of lightsabers.  Middle management can only be stunned by conventional munitions; it takes a lightsaber or an enchanted greatsword to actually hurt them.
