IMHO, art is about self-expression…BUT. That’s not its true purpose. Its true purpose is to deliver a ready-made reality into the audience’s mind with such clarity and power that their heart cannot help but lift, the mind cannot help but spark, and the blood cannot help but rush. Do I feel nice after I write? Yeah…but the reason I edit so much is because (ultimately) it’s not about me.
Ultimately, I’m trying to make it an act of service.

You know, I was trying to explain this exact thing to someone yesterday. Maybe some writing is about the events that happen, and the characters and that sort of thing, but the thing that _motivates_ me to write is that it’s the closest thing we have to telepathy when it comes to packaging up a feeling and delivering it to another person.

I totally agree! Writing really is telepathy by another name…we put down black squiggles with no inherent meaning onto the screen and someone else looks at them and dreams of the same world we do. Telepathy…or a magic spell! 🙂

Writing as a service… I have never thought of it that way but there can be a lot of truth in that statement.
