Musings

Balance is often thought of as serenely perching on some magical “in-between point,” but—as energy constantly shifts on an infinite number of scales—nothing could be further from the truth.  That still perch is just an illusion.

“Balance” is the result of being willing to push in any direction at any time with utter commitment.  So that you can keep rushing forward.  Laughing.

  1. I have always thought of balance as a personal goal. To keep ones life in balance with friends and acquaintances insures a tighter bond, but just as you have described most of the time, even with a commitment to attain it…. it is an allusion that never materializes.

  2. Trying to keep up to the Joneses will never get you anywhere. It is only an ego trip that ends up in suffering.
We achieve balance when we look inwards and find the middle of all extremes. And once we are at peace in the middle we go beyond.

    • I’d argue that the extremes are constantly changing…it makes balance a dance in fluidity. I myself have firmly stuck my flag in the “middle” only to find that it has shifted under my feet, hahaha! And forgive my play on words…but to use an “extreme” example…pedophilia was condoned in Ancient Greece. The much vaunted and admired Spartans and many of our titans of initial democracy engaged in it. I’m not trying to make a point about right or wrong…only about the lack of a defined middle.
