Be wary of the various substitutes for corrective action: Guilt, the evocation of “rules,” faulty logic, indignant rage, the laughing “I’m-a-rebel-I-don’t-give-a-f**k” attitude…the list goes on. A plethora of emotional drugs will try to convince me that either nothing needs to be done, or to lose myself in what’s comfortable. And I understand that it’s painful to look deeply enough into the mirror to see what lesson I’m trying to dodge.
Ultimately though, I know it’s essential.

Painful as it is to admit, you are so right! Sigh.

Oh yeah—I’ve sabotaged myself many a time and justified it thusly

Quote: “either nothing needs to be done, or to lose myself in what’s comfortable” – Sure, for those who really live a life ain’t enslaved by capitalist ‘ideals for sale’ anymore, and neither do they define themselves by fashion or all the other glorified ballast we learned to worship!
The cure is thereby to pretend the sickness has healed itself away. 😉

One half of the cure, if I may risk being the obnoxious devil’s advocate. The other half being effective implementation of action. And I’m not gonna sugercoat; that is a hard, hard thing when society chains our free time with debts, meaningless obligations, and meaningless duties if we’re LUCKY. The unlucky ones have to struggle just to survive. In either case, the first task of creativity is using it to free up time so that there’s enough time to actually create!

Some years ago I pushed matters I can’t resolve in reality into fiction. One close to this topic, and the sad truth of it, still remains among my cost-free. I guess it won’t help you much, but feel free to check:

Perhaps that was the point of the unresolvable matter! This looks like an interesting set piece, like the Necronomicon. Are you planning on using it in another work?

It is part of several works through the years already, kinda work-notes for the big shot (which will never come)… LOL!

You never know man! I try to not lean one way or the other on the big shot, try to forget about it entirely, in fact, so if it comes, my expectations don’t gum it up

I only know 2 ways: An industry stands behind you and the most unworthy crap goes blockbuster, or you worked through decades and one day simply reached that skill-level & fame…

No amount of dedication or corporate backing can beat luck. Luck topples empires and makes kings out of peasants. The question is whether we choose to believe that that all-powerful force is random or there is some underlying purpose.

Oooh that would upset the Fashionable Slackers and the Talk About Radical Change groups (if they bothered to shift out of their bubbles)

yep. Certainly don’t envy them the inevitable existential rude awakenings in store.
