Musings

Examination of self/others is most rewarding when done in the harshest, most honest light; how else could we be accurate?  But passing judgment on others…I believe that is best done in the most compassionate, understanding manner; because fully understanding another’s horror and reacting with clarity—even if we have to kill—is how we embody the best parts of ourselves.

  1. I agree and will add let some time pass before you and critical examinations you can accurately self examine. I am no one to judge but know if I do my ego gives me condescending aires so I try to stay from my ego’s manner of saying something with kindness but somehow showing superiority or at least that’s what my sister used to say I did. 😄

  2. This view sounds very similar to some Western interpretations of an all knowing God who is at once loving but retains the power of life and death. Unless you are talking about situations where people or animals are in extreme suffering and some type of consent was planned. I am not confident enough with human judgement in large part because of the extreme diversity within differing belief systems. There have been cultures who believed a funeral pier for a widow was compassionate or even killing a rape victim. Although those examples are horrifying a sort of war lord, vigilantism where punishment is rendered on one man’s beliefs is grave. It is just very subjective and “kill” is a really strong word. Interesting “Musing” though. Made me think. 🙂

    • I believe that our clumsy wordifications (yep I made it up!) point to the same deep concept: To drive yourself to be better in general through the right mix of beliefs that work for you but not to impose them on others, unless the situation is ethically imminent. You gotta honor what you believe is right in the end, and a large part of that belief has to recognize that for people to undergo real positive change, they have to come to it of their own accord. Thanks for the comment! A tricky subject, given the countless scenarios and iterations that this world throws at us, but the core concept is simple. But as we both know, the core of everything is simple, the complication comes when we try to apply it to the complexity of life! 😉
