Echo-A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel

I’m in the car with a friendly old cabbie.  We’re on the highway; suddenly we’re beset by a gang of mad max style punks.  They’re sticking their tongues out, throwing stuff at us, waving spiked bats-the whole deal.  My driver opens his eReader to Echo, and it flashes with magic light.  Puts on some shades.

Grim, confident voice:  “Hang on to something.”

He executes a perfect j-turn, and my mouth drops in astonishment as the car unfolds and transforms into a twenty-foot tall battle mech.  It starts laying waste to our would-be assailants.  Problem solved.
