Musings

There are some folks, amazingly enough, who say cancer is the best thing that ever happened to them.

I believe that as incredible as it may seem, it’s possible to view any adverse event in the same light, and also vice versa:ย  to be completely dissatisfied, no matter how great the fortune or luck.

  3. Developing about 30 food allergies about 30 years ago was one of the best things to ever happen to me. I cleaned up my diet. I prepare all my own food. I have complete control over what I put in my body. I lost weight and maintained the loss and became healthier than I had ever been. But cancer? Don’t know that I could make that leap.
I, too, really enjoy your musings. They always make me think.

  4. I totally agree Kent, adversity can be exhilarated while splendour can be boring. I think it depends entirely upon the mind of the individual person. In the first case, whether they are the kind of person who believes that they cannot overcome the adversity, or the kind of person for whom failure is not a word and all that they think about is how they overcome the adversity. In the second case, I think a person could only be dissatisfied with fortune if they haven’t gotten it by their own efforts, if they have acquired it through, as you say, luck, or some more sinister means.

    1. Indeed! This ability to shift our perception seems to be nothing short of a superpower.
