I suspect that no group will live up to my expectations; every time I’ve assumed that someone has inherited the vaunted properties of a certain group, I have been sorely disappointed.

But certain people have lived up to—and wildly exceeded—my expectations.  So unless the volume of data is overwhelming, or unless the situation is imminent, I try to assess things person by person, context by context.

So far, this seems to be the most functional lens through which to view life.
