Musings

I suspect that no group will live up to my expectations; every time I’ve assumed that someone has inherited the vaunted properties of a certain group, I have been sorely disappointed.

But certain people have lived up to—and wildly exceeded—my expectations.  So unless the volume of data is overwhelming, or unless the situation is imminent, I try to assess things person by person, context by context.

So far, this seems to be the most functional lens through which to view life.

  1. I think that is an accurate line of thought. The properties of a group tend to be more narrow in scope than those of an individual. This seems to be necessary to form the group from individuals that share some properties, but certainly not all. It’s one thing to value the group properties, but, to me, to revere them will always lead to dissapointment in some form. Those individuals that cast away properties not shared by the group end up lacking as individuals, anyway.
