Echo: A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel

I’m walking my 10 lb. terrier, Bitefighter, past the tennis courts, when I see a score of cat-people giving me a hateful glare.  One of them yells:  “NOW!”  A flood of casts bursts from the bushes and pour into a modified tennis-ball launcher.  The sky darkens with rapacious felines, but unlike the Spartans, I have no shield with which to protect myself.  In sheer desperation, I open my eReader to Echo.  Magic flash.  Mechanized armor clanks over Bitefighter, ensconcing even his whiskers in tiny alloyed sheaths.  His eyes glow red, then thousands of tiny strobes activate on his body and flood the courts with dancing laser dots.  The cats are thrown into disarray as they start chasing little red specks across the courts.  While they’re going apeshit, me and my mech-ed up buddy make our escape.
