I’m dressed as Skywalker (the badass version in black who saves Han from Jabba) and having a grand old time at Comic-con, chilling and laughing. I wander into an off-to-the-side exhibit, and suddenly the lights dim. I hear a door latch shut behind me, cutting me off from the rest of the exhibits. “What the—” I turn and I see evil-smiling Trekkies pointing phasers at me. In a nasal voice one of them says, “Renounce your ways, heretic.” I’m about to laugh when he shoots the floor between my legs and leaves a burnt patch of smoking tile: HOLY ODIN HE’S GOT A REAL PHASER! Open my eReader to Echo. Magic flash. My fake lightsaber leaps from my belt to my hands and comes to shining, blazing life. My eyes widen in wonder. I hear, “KILL HIM YOU FOOLS! KILL HIM NOW!” And in one magic instant, I’m flipping and twisting, running up walls, and knocking phaser blasts out of the air like a real Jedi. As I tuck my body and shoulder-ram through the emergency exit, I hear an anguished roar of nerd fury, then I hear John Williams’ fanfare come to glorious life behind me.
It’s about damn time they made a real lightsaber. Echo Vol. 1 is $0.99 on Kindle here: Vol. 1 on Kindle. Vol. 2 on Kindle here: Vol.2 on Kindle.
Illogical, although what could one expect from a Star Wars Fan.
