At the park. A congregation of elderly ladies and school kids pass by. They smile and wave and I return the gesture, and my heart is warmed. Then suddenly—BY FALKOR’S FREAKY FACE!—they snarl and their eyes light red; now they’re galloping at me on all fours. (Dunno ’bout you but an easy way to scare me is crazy demonic old ladies and kiddies). Thinking quick, I open my eReader to Echo. Magic flash. A platoon of battle-hardened Space Marines appears. They fix bayonets, suck air through their fat man-stogies—causing the ends to glow greedy red—and start blazing at the demons with Gauss rifles. Their eyes light up with that beautifully weathered, hard-ass Space Marine joy. Take that, demon Motha Duckas!
