Halloween. A bunch of young punks are running at an old lady with a walker, eggs in cocked hands. She opens an eReader to Echo. Magic flash. The eggs fly through the air, and the old lady jumps into an aerial barrel roll, her feet tracing a wake of trailing glimmer as she twists and spirals. She punches out an open palm, and a wave of disturbed air launches from it, repelling the eggs and sending them back at the kids with hurricane fury, splattering them with yolk. Her shadow covers their faces as she looms over them and says, “I prefer mine scrambled. With cheese.”
