Echo-A Dystopian Science Fiction Novel

I’m at the library.  Everybody’s studying quietly, except for a bunch of dumb jocks who’ve opted to be loud and obnoxious instead.  They’re burping, then they progress to flatulence; letting one rip, making exaggerated waves in front of their face, and then looking around and laughing with idiotic aplomb.  I grit my teeth, quietly open my eReader to Echo, and there’s a magic flash.  One of them farts, but this time the guy bursts into flames and begins screaming.  The others are yelling in panic and turn a fire extinguisher on the guy before he gets badly burned.  Everybody else is laughing.
