Long-term strategy seems to (eventually) translate into short-term benefits.

But doing it the other way around—focusing on short-term strategy in hopes of continual benefits, either short-term or long-term—doesn’t seem to work.

James Joyce described the idea of using rhythm and tempo to craft your message into a channel for transcendence (the epiphany).  In a parallel fashion, we are able to live this dynamic by utilizing time management and results-oriented thinking to achieve a desired outcome.

Those subjects may not be as sexy or sigh-inducing as poetic theory, but they hold an enormous advantage in that when we make use of them, we don’t just experience or talk about Joyce’s idea; you LIVE it.

And the way to start managing time and garnering results is by redirecting focus onto discipline and strategy.

Consciousness comes with a huge advantage—you can consciously program yourself with positive habits until you’re unconsciously effective.  At that point, you can consciously place yourself in greater levels of ambiguity and chaos, repeat the process, and expand the bounds of your own consciousness.

If existence is made of information, then effective communication becomes the most influential action you could ever take.  This works across all domains.  In comedy, you communicate a reason as to why your audience should laugh.  In war, you communicate a reason as to why the opposition should surrender.  In art, you communicate a reason as to why your audience should feel [emotion] or experience an insight.   

The act of achieving a desired result is dependent on correctly perceiving the alignment of information, and sending a crafted packet of data into its midst, so that a new, more favorable alignment will take the old one’s place.  This takes all the idea of worth, idealism, and dogma out of my life.

And it leaves behind play.

In my opinion, people overly emphasize suffering in their quest to produce art and acquire wisdom.

While suffering can tap a universal perspective (everyone suffers), it often leaves obstructive trauma and permanent damage.

I prefer to emphasize long-term problem-solving.  Everyone needs to solve problems, and unlike suffering, problem-solving has the propensity to help you gain territory and secure the high ground.   

Continue on this path, and you can keep ascending to unforeseen heights.  And it needn’t be so damn painful.

As time goes on, we’ll inevitably be exposed to importance and significance (from a human perspective). 

But instead of waiting for life to deliver revelations, we can be proactive; we can parse our experience and tie patterns together.  We can weave phenomena into a brilliant tapestry that speaks to our souls.

Pick whatever label you want for this timeless modality—warrior, poet, artist, scientist, philosopher…I lump them all together under the title of “luminary.”

It pays to examine yourself on a daily basis, and prune away any lies that have surreptitiously festered within your perception.  Although it’s initially uncomfortable, it becomes increasingly easier to laugh at them as they fall from their perch.  The alternative is way more unpleasant.

If they’re allowed to grow into a giant tower, it may cripple or destroy you when it finally topples.
