News: I’m plowing through Echo 4, and the story is starting to take shape in my head. There’s a lot—I repeat: a LOT—of fat to cut out right now, so we’ll see how much I take out at the end of drafting. I took a ton out in Echo 3—probably approaching 50% of the total word count.
The interesting thing about “power-drafting” (that’s my term for drafting where you power through and save the editing for when you’re done) is that while I push my word count faster and higher than I typically would, I tend to “wallow” in the scene. By that I mean I’ll let my mind have freer reign to put down details and describe more threads of the story. This probably adds a lot more fat to the book, but perhaps in the gross sense, it’ll leave more gems behind once I polish things up.
Okay, that’s it for now! My bike tire went flat and I lost my wireless headphones so I gotta go run some impromptu errands. If you are a writer, then I wish you inspired drafting and insightful editing!!!
