DRAFTING IS FINISHED!!! I know that some of you may have been wondering if I died, but I’m alive, haha! I just sequestered myself and cranked out the last few bits of Volume 3.
Now I’m cracking down on editing. I had planned for this book to be published by September 3 of this year, but it’s got much more meat than I had anticipated. So it’ll end up being a little over 3 months late (I plan on publishing it in late December). The fact that I was still late even after pumping up my word count per day to 700 rather than 500 has made me reevaluate a few things. Here’s what’s going to happen as soon as I publish this book.
I’m going to attempt working on two books at once, putting 500 words into each every day (Echo 4 and Gul’Thak). Although Echo 4 won’t be released until it’s complete, Gul’thak will come out a chapter at a time on my website. The first 100 or 150 pages will be free to read on my site. Those will also be available as the intro on amazon for $0.99 with the disclaimer that it is free on my site. That way, people won’t have to wait so long to read new material by me. They’ll have short installments of Gul’Thak parallelling the development of Echo 4.
Eventually, I’m going to have each intro/first volume of all my series be free on my site. Not only is this part of my indie marketing campaign, but I like the idea of pushing that energy out. I like the idea that my work is for the love rather than the profit, and that everyone is at liberty to partake in a good chunk of the beginning story without paying anything. And if they want to pay? I’ll have those intros up for $0.99 on amazon with the disclaimer that they’re free on my site.
It hit me a few weeks back that writing is my calling. I woke up at 1:30 am, having grabbed about 2 hours of sleep, and tossed in bed until 3. I got up and started my day, cracking out my words, going to the gym, and doing some editing afterwards. And guess what? I WASN’T TIRED. I realized that I’ve been writing for over a year and I always have ideas, I’m always ready to go, and that I LOVE IT! So rather than Smeagolize myself and worry about each book bringing me fame and fortune, I’ve decided to just push those intros out for free! If the Universe wants to make me rich, then that’s cool, but really this is something I’m going to do because I feel it’s my calling.
