Word Count, volume 2: 84485 Drafting is done!
News: Thanks to All Who Bought Echo! And BIG THANKS to Melissa, Barbara, Ian, Lorna, [anonymous], Lisa, and Meg for posting AMAZING reviews on Amazon!!! And Ashley as well for the 5 star on Nook!
Finished drafting, and since I edit as I go, volume 2 is already heavily edited. I think I will take a month to sit down and edit even more, however. I may do another month after that (probably not), but no more than that. Sorry for the delay!
I was hoping the final word count would be closer to 90k, but whatever. The story comes first! And since there’s so much action in this volume, I have to be even tighter in the editing process or it will become extremely boring. Yes, there are big chunks of dialogue and development and the action has underlying significance, but economy and crafting of description is key!
I always mention that I believe one must edit and draft every day, but with so much editing, what do I do? Do I forgo volume 3 until 2 is done? Not sure about the rest of you, but if all I do is edit, then I get really, really tired of my story. So I compromised with myself; I limit volume 3’s drafting to a mere 100 words/day until volume 2 is out. On average, drafting 250 words takes me around 15 minutes, so 100 words is going to be roughly 5 minutes out of my day. That way I can maintain the balance. Editing is now five chapters a day, or roughly 50 pages per day, which is a lot, let me tell you. Usually I only do two chapters a day. So. To the readers that are awaiting volume 2, let me assure you that making it presentable and ready-to-read is my current focus. BUT, volume 3 is also progressing, albeit super slowly. Gotta keep that magic going, and drafting is where it comes from.
Well, I gotta get back to work! To all you writers out there, I wish you inspired drafting and insightful editing!
