But to truly solve a societal problem, it is the entire world that must undertake that journey.  We individuals can help things along by setting the example—by being one more brick in that crucial foundation.

Data from my past experiences can be used in one of two ways:

1.  It can shore up my comfort zone, to produce similar results to what I’ve gotten in the past, inviting incremental progress (at best).

Or:

2.  It can serve as a springboard—a foundation of basics from which I can prep my approach and venture forth into ambiguity, possibly reaping unexpectedly pleasing results.

I prefer the second option.  My time here is limited, so why not use it to the fullest extent?  That’s the call to adventure; there’s a good reason why it appears over and over in our most enduring stories and resonant parables.

In the existential sense, it seems it’s impossible to fully “get it,” or at the very least, highly unlikely and a waste of time.

In the immediate sense, if we do our best and try to learn from our mistakes, that’s as close as we come to actually “getting it.”

And personally, I believe that’s enough.

But ironically, acknowledging that absurdity allows me to make sense of my nonsensical life.

Give yourself permission to fail, then ruthlessly push yourself to do better next time.

That way, you will have an excuse to act, paired with a focus on victory.  All too often, those two approaches conflict and clash (perfectionism vs. recklessness), but that needn’t be the case—they can work in harmony and maximize potential.
