Enjoying something fully, diving into it, but stopping short of drawing a box around yourself and IDENTIFYING with it…
Well IMHO, that’s a divine practice. 😉

Structure that is implemented for the sole purpose of sheepish adoration and blind perpetuation is toxic garbage…the highest purpose of structure is to direct attention to [that] which is BEYOND structure or fluidity.
It is not a prison to trap us through worship, but a solid weave of adjustable footholds that enables us to climb.
Honor the gods of consistency by showing up every day and over time, their rewards will be consistent.
Honor the gods of audacity by taking those risks that Existence hints you should take…and you will be rewarded in leaps and bounds.
These are the two fundamental approaches to accomplishment.
Find your “work?” Yes, do that. Find something you love or that you’re talented at, and become EXCELLENT at it. Then, move on to the next thing and become excellent at that. Eventually, I believe that you’ll transcend the need for singular “styles” or “paths.” But in order to get to that point, it is necessary to know the fundamentals of excellence that exists at the core of ALL activities.
(And BTW, don’t forget to have the time of your life!) 😃
Are there “rules?” Absolutely. But the catch is: Every one of us has our own set, and we have to discover them for ourselves. And once we do that? Well we create another set of rules for ourselves that lets us be MORE authentic, and MORE expressive…and then we do it again. And again. And again…
And once that process has become second nature, we’ve become our own masters. 😉
Never dismiss editing. If [writing] is like a katana, then drafting is like the initial forging that gives the weapon its weight. The EDITING, however; the editing is like the endless refolding that follows. Correct editing will fashion your words into a sharpened edge, able to easily slice apart ignorance and falsity. The willingness to edit will separate a writer from a drafter.
(In fact, I think this could be applied to anything, not just writing.) 😉
In Musashi’s day, he tested himself by fighting life-and-death duels. For obvious reasons, that’s not a feasible course of action for most of us. But we can still follow his spirit by testing ourselves in life’s varied arenas. We can go for it time and again in different fields, with different identities even. Upon finding something that fits, dig deep until you uncover deeper truths within it, then move on to the next thing.
In this manner, if you “know the Way broadly, you will see it in all things.”
Every action, every word, every gesture is an expression of my inner design.
So I examine that design; upgrade it, refine it, overhaul it…and in the daunting quest against my ignorance, I weaponize my very soul.
Making connections and nodding wisely is a PRELIMINARY step. Want to go further?
Take that newly honed awareness and make products for OTHERS to see connections with and nod wisely at. 😉
On the road to [enlightenment], every strife, every effort, every grand failure and triumph may in fact be utterly necessary…
All those meaningless, exhaustive gestures may need to be made so that one finally gives up and realizes that there is [nothing] to enlighten. 😉
