Victory hinges on “knowing when.”
Knowing when to indulge, and when to abstain. Knowing when to speak, and when to be silent. Knowing when to commit, and when to wait.
It’s a hard thing to do, but if you have the discipline to study yourself and honestly assess the data—whether it’s complimentary or not—then you can garner some idea of your strengths and weaknesses, and have a rough idea of where to start.

Absolutely. It separates the seasoned from the naive.

I would be more careful with terms such as übermensch, since that implies the existence of some untermenschen. This reeks after eugenics and fascism. Personally I find the way the term “mensch” is used into the Jewish cultural context more appealing. It refers to a person of integrity and honor.
It could of course also mean that you’re referring with the word Uber to a very popular transportation service. In this semantically setting, an uber-human would be someone who moves around a lot while using or working in this kind of environment.

Until the social justice warriors clamor for my blood, I’m just gonna trust that my readers are smart enough to grasp the context of what I write, which had nothing at all to do with Nazi worldviews.

My editor warned me a long time ago for some words that can make a writer lose a certain amount of readers.

I’m good with that. My first priority is telling the best story I possibly can.

Unless you are Wal-Mart, Amazon, or eBay, the biggest and broadest audience is not necessarily the best one. People like Van Gogh knew this.

Yes, I would agree with you. And if you know yourself well enough, understanding the when gets easier too!
