Evaluate people instance by instance, context by context, and act accordingly.  That way, you can do everything in your power to avoid the worst and eke the best out of any given person.

The idea of demonizing or idolizing someone is an introductory stepping stone that–as you continue to evolve–becomes a weighty anchor that threatens to drown you.

Nobody screws up everything.

There’s comfort and safety within tradition, but just like it’s better for parents and children to evolve beyond a parasitic relationship (even though it’s initially necessary), it’s better for people to evolve beyond mindless obedience to a given tradition, and apply the deeper principles behind whatever they were venerating.

The rules–the ones that endure–are often in place for a good reason.

Know that reason inside and out, and you’ll understand if the rules it generates apply to a problem, or if they’re holding you back.

It’s awareness–not some misguided sense of rebellion–that allows someone to break the rules, and to spread harmony and well-being to those in need.

The other way–loudly declaring “I don’t give a fuck,” or “Nobody’s the boss of me,” or “I’m so detached”–is nothing more than wallowing in ignorance, and an invitation to eventual (if not immediate) disaster.

It’s fine to critique people you like, as long as you don’t condemn or laud their personal worth.  If they can’t inspire you, they can still help you–they can serve as a cautionary tale.

It’s okay to admire people you dislike, as long as you don’t condemn or laud their personal worth.  If they can’t serve as a cautionary tale, they can serve as inspiration.

To me, it was never about worth; that perspective fosters erroneous judgment and wayward idealism.  It was about doing what I could with what I had in front of me.  Not just for the obvious benefits, but for the hidden ones as well.  Eat the ribeye, but make use of the hide, bone, and marrow.  Let others fret about taste and prestige.

You’ll leave them in the dust as you become a pure expression of capability and awareness.
