There is a beautiful irony in a writer who details the hero’s journey; the hero’s journey means an individual will venture into chaos, and through [logic/discipline/perception/audacity/creativity/any number of timeless qualities] bring order to that chaos so that others may navigate it.
What do you think the writer does when (s)he wrenches a narrative out of a blank page?
He or she creates beauty…well, if their writing doesn’t suck. They take the reader to another place/time/space of the author’s choosing.

I’m not sure it is a punishment. Perhaps it is a tip of the hat to the inevitable suffering of life, and how it is made worth it by providing your fellow humans with some light and warmth.

writing is not the punishment, Kent, that is indeed my salvation, the purposeful and expansive act, but look what happened to van Gogh, for instance, Galileo, Jesus, and my very own Jesus, Joan of Arc – cheers, R ! chard
