My opinion is that if you truly learn your lesson, you will no longer think of a teacher as your โ€œbetter,โ€ or “someone special,โ€ but simply as a friend. ย (I think this is what Buddha meant when he said heโ€™d reincarnate as โ€œmaitreya,โ€ which means friend. ย Or in other words: ย even the “highest spiritual being” would be revealed to be someone you laugh and have fun with, not as someone to be venerated or idolized.)

  2. Nicely written. ๐Ÿ™‚ And we may even dislike teachers but even as an authority figure, they can still have a feeling of being on the same level of us. And if we look at them at the same level of us, we can respectfully disagree. You know? ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Exactly! With that mentality, it’s possible to ditch the roller-coaster of vilification and deification and learn from EVERYTHING. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Yes, everything is merely a learning experience! With that mindset, we can overcome many things.

One of my guiding principles in teaching came from George MacDonald: “No teacher should strive to make others think as he thinks, but to lead them to the living Truth.” Friends do that.

    1. They do! But sometimes, friends and family forget to act in this role…
