I suspect that fortune and wealth are both tests to see whether we imprison ourselves with indulgence…or free ourselves with newfound access.

    I had a character in “Life Sentence” who said – “I think there’s a fine line between castles and prisons that only the people who’ve lived in either one can see.” I would never have thought to say that, but there it is. And I believe her.

    I keep thinking that I could get a real job and be completely miserable with the ability to buy a lot of stuff I do not appreciate. Why is that even a temptation?

      I’d say it’s just our evolutionary instincts—it would seem to make sense that in harsher times the advantage would go to someone always trying to improve their position.
