Musings

Great science becomes artful in its masterful presentation, and great art becomes scientific in its precise composition.

If you really go for something, I believe that labels eventually fall away.  The cosmic joke reveals itself, and you can’t help but smile in wonder.

Musings

Currently in an Eng 200 class (no they don’t know I write novels), but I’m rankling at the requirements:  No sentence fragments/contractions/etc.  Makes for dry/blah writing.  After peer editing some stuff I truly can’t understand, I realize that-when starting-knowing the rules is essential to making [writing] comprehensible.  But at a certain point, to make [it] really sing, the rules need to be ditched deliberately, fully knowing WHY they need to be ditched.

Musings

I love pieces of nature and city alike.  The nature where I see something growing next to its potential predator…The city where people from completely different walks of life exist side by side.

Perceiving this coexistence between opposites, this acceptance of difference, is what I call the “god’s-eye view.”  It’s the opposite of fear-based conformity and a “my way or the highway” attitude.  The beauty of difference, underscored by the magic of commonality.

How else would [higher power] see it?

Musings

I’ve ridiculed the flamboyance of artists; the meat-suits, the lohan antics.  Later I realized that it might be childish indulgence, but sometimes it’s deliberate:  A bizarre/outlandish move that reminds him/her that they’re not a solid persona.  That they can shift to a new identity/re-access creativity.  It doesn’t need to be crazy (sometimes it does); it can be simple-give a buck to a hobo I habitually ignore, or a sincere/heartfelt compliment towards someone I hate.  Just to remind myself I have no idea what I really am.  So that I can be whatever I need to be.

Musings

By learning mechanically, with sole emphasis on grasping a system, one acquires base functionality.

But if I watch/push myself while I learn-noting ideas/beliefs holding me back and how to ditch them-then I engage in a study of the spirit.  THAT knowledge can be applied to any pursuit, and is the purest, cleanest form of education.

Musings

Procrastination starts as a joke, but I’ve seen it corrode the souls of those who say “Tomorrow…” or “Maybe next time…”  Seeing people die or degenerate into disease…mortality is real. You can ignore it, deny it, or run with it.

I don’t believe that I have to attack a bucket list, but I do believe that I should honor my dreams by doing at least a little bit for them each and every single day.

Musings

Up to a point, the talented/powerful can use their energy to impose their will onto their surroundings.  But to move to the highest level, they must impose their will onto themselves, so that they will be functional/optimal regardless of surroundings or even circumstance.

Musings

I’ve indulged in both political extremes; the far left insisting that all fault lies with the environment, and the far right insisting that all fault lies with the individual.

Eventually I realized that the fault arises from not being able to recognize that sometimes it’s one, sometimes the other.  And being able to act/adjust accordingly.

Musings

I’ve seen the words “at least” used for gratitude (e.g:  At least I have food/shelter/luxury) and I’ve seen it used for elitism (e.g:  At least I’m better than him/her), or procrastination/inaction (e.g:  I don’t need to do that because at least I’ve done this much).

“At least” is a powerful phrase and it can cut away an obstacle or become one.  Took me a long time to learn that.
