I’ve been told, “You’re the most productive yet messy person that I know.  How do you get anything done?”  I shrugged and stayed quiet.  But inwardly I responded:  “I don’t talk sh*t; I DO sh*t.”  To produce clean material, IMHO it’s necessary to delve into that dirty complexity that nobody else wants to, and painstakingly wring something clean and evocative out of it.  A neat desk is absolutely, unquestionably worthless if nothing is born from its polished surface.

I’d much rather have a polished spirit instead.

Everybody likes talking about potentiality and new projects, myself included.  That’s when ideas are fresh, exciting, and sexy.  But that’s not when you prove yourself.  You prove yourself when you’re on the 70000th word, or the 500th edit, or when you look at a blank screen and feel completely demotivated.

THAT’S when the universe listens closely, and that’s when you prove yourself.

On a given day, the only solace I get from not yet having achieved my ultimate goals is that on THAT day, I have spent time working to realize them.

600 more words.  One more workout.  One more this.  One more that.  Every day.

Mindless addiction/aversion are dead programming, and if the idea is to be able to become whatever is necessary at a moment’s notice, they’re liabilities.  But how to start?  I’ve seen plenty of well-intentioned-but-doomed-to-fail aspirants immediately declare they are free of addiction/aversion, but that kind of cold-turkey radical leap is too severe to sustain.  What I find achievable is training myself to foster healthy/sustainable addictions and aversions, then wean myself of those.  Addiction to anything is bad, but some addictions (good diet/exercise/discipline) are more productive than others.

Start from there, then steadily hone yourself.

Musings

If the divine is in all, even that which is distasteful, I keep in mind that eventually, I must be willing and able to do everything I currently dislike.  For in some exceptional moment, I may be called upon to become whatever [Higher Power] deems necessary.  This is not a justification to indulge my whims or flagellate myself, but once again, a reminder TO BE ABLE to do everything…

By being willing to become anything.

Musings

What’s the use of feeling entitled?  I understand that sometimes I may actually BE entitled to basic rights and whatnot, but excluding those situations where morality and ethics come into play, it’s much more rewarding—not to mention manageable—to demand results from myself rather than existence.

Musings

Some people upgrade out of necessity—to stay afloat and tread water—but the optimal way is to train myself to see the coming tides and upgrade my operating system well before they arrive.

So that I may surf instead of struggle.

Musings

To accomplish something that causes people to look and marvel, “How did they DO that?” one must first be sufficiently dedicated enough to elicit the reaction:  “Who DOES that?  That’s crazy.”

Wise quotes and ancient sayings aren’t meant to be mindlessly followed.  They’re meant to inspire a soul to greater depths of wisdom and self-examination, so that he/she can clearly observe existence and make up his/her OWN quotes and sayings.
