We’re tied down by physical/societal necessities, so in order to follow our dreams, we must be strategic.  Sometimes it works to just leap—live in your car/risk your life/etc—and if your spirit is honed, and your ego is tame, then for that instance, you will be carried.  But eventually, the ability to apply discipline and critical thinking MUST be learned.  Because in the end, the “drudgeries,” and “miraculous manifestations,” are both applications of consciousness.  And I believe that once we’re fluent in ALL such applications, then we will [as/trans]cend to new and more brilliant planes.

Obsessing about being The One Who Comes Through In A Clutch is futile; stray bullets, car accidents, badass opponents…hell, even meteors can screw up our efforts.  But what isn’t futile is the TRAINING; training is a blow against laziness/dull thinking/indulgence—a blow against the ego itself.  It needn’t be drudgery either; the game can be switched to:  How can I be more [fast/strong/creative/focused] NEXT time?  Ignore the herd’s mindless bleating about comfort and status and “normality.”

There’s training to do.  😉

When I sit down to write and I’m feeling stuck or lazy, I focus on writing for my younger self—the one that was utterly immersed in what he read.

Because just like that wide-eyed kid, MY readers deserve nothing less than full absorption.

It is possible to draw energy from all sources—positive AND negative.  And it is possible to become blinded by either end of the spectrum.  Navigating these polarities requires ruthless honesty with yourself.

This will ensure that you’re a clear channel, rather than a muddied dam.

Poetry/philosophy/ideas are the inexhaustible ore of existence.  You can fashion them into tools, weapons, or marvelous engines of wonder.

Given this premise, it behooves me to hone my refining process, so that instead of a dull rock, I can hand someone a sparkling gem.

The slower parts of society are always trying to monopolize our time with junk code.  So let’s get to hacking.  Let’s use creativity/perspective/discipline to gain minutes here, an hour there, so forth and so forth.

Eventually these “walls” will become hurdles, then surfboards, and after that…hell, we’ll have a blast riding the malleable waves of existence.

I can be told every kind/encouraging word possible, but in the end, I will do it or I won’t.  Whether I succeed is out of my control; the only thing I can control is my intensity and my effort.  I’ll be damned if fault is found in either.

(I’ll also be damned in a more literal sense if I forget to have fun while I’m doing it.  😉  )

The work of past greats (from which we’ve established doctrine) isn’t meant to be a stiffened prison, but a helpful reinforcement/guide for when we plunge one hand into the electric core of creativity and conduct it into our other hand—THAT hand will craft new structures that radiate fresh life.

IMHO, if the current is strong enough, the prudish bones of outdated doctrine will simply melt away.

Make a game out of life.  That way you can have fun with it, and still summon a competitive focus.

(And IMHO):  Remember that just like a game, the main purpose of life is to come together in camaraderie, fun, and the mutual bond of pushing our limits.  And I believe that at the end—just like a game—we’ll all smile at each other, be thankful that we played, and move on to the next great thing.  🙂
