About

Dirty Sci-Fi Buddha is the website for me:  author Kent Wayne.  The site name comes from the subject material in my early pieces of writing.

Three works are featured.  The first one is a series called Echo, a science fiction dystopia where a disillusioned warrior pushes his craft to its bloody limits, then attempts to break through into a realm of world-bending mastery.  I’ve finished this four-volume series, and I’ve also posted some free sample chapters, click here to start reading.

The second book is a high school adventure, full of profanity, psychedelics, and interdimensional shenanigans.  Here’s the link for the book on Amazon:  Kor’Thank:  Barbarian Valley Girl.   Sample chapters are available here:  Sample Chapters for Kor’Thank:  Barbarian Valley Girl

I’m working on a YA fantasy called the Unbound Realm, a three-volume series.  I’ve finished books one and two, and I’m working on the third.  Here’s a link to volume 1:  A Door into Evermoor  and here’s a link to volume 2:  Weapons of Old  Here are some sample chapters:  Sample Chapters for the Unbound Realm.

Thanks for your interest!  If you’re a writer, I wish you inspired drafting and insightful editing!  Best way to reach me is by DMing me on Facebook.  However, I have noticed some DMs getting filtered out by Facebook messenger, so if I don’t respond, just comment on my wall.  I’ll take it down, DM you, and address your concerns.  Sorry to all those who never got a response; I wasn’t trying to be rude!  🙂

  1. Hello, you followed my blog a while back, and so please forgive me for the delay, but I want to thank you for that! I’m guessing that, as a Sci-Fi writer, you might have been impressed with the only sci-fi poem that I’ve written thus far, Hyperluminal Odyssey, and thus the follow. I’d like to get your thoughts on that piece of you haven’t read it yet. You can find it here:

Again, thanks for the follow, and apologies for the delay!!! Good luck and best wishes to you in your writing! Hope you continue to enjoy my work!

  2. Dear Kent!
    Greetings from Shizuoka, Japan!
Thank you so much for following my new story, “Samurais never sleep at night”! I have another totally different one (and a long one at that) at http://dragonlife.wordpress.com/
I suppose many have already asked you the same questions. It is true that hard publishing is like wading in a shark’s pond, but how do you really go with digital publishing?
Looking forward to reading your posts!
    Best regards,
    Robert-Gilles

    • Wow, Japan’s always a place I wanted to visit. Unfortunately, I believe I’ll have to make a lot of money to afford just to eat there, haha! Digital publishing is much easier in my opinion, as I don’t have to deal with agents or editors. The product I put out is something I assume full responsibility and control over.

  3. I have my first embarrassing book that I wrote when I was 18 available online. I sell copies of it on my Etsy shop since it’s self published and print on demand. It makes me cringe when I read parts of it but it’s kind of my beginnings as an artist, so I keep it in my body of work that’s available to people.

  5. Since my youth, I have enjoyed reading Science Fiction. Love the latest high-tech motion pictures with a sci-fi bent. Now that I’m retired, I have more time than ever to read and travel. Thanks for stopping by and following my journeys.

  6. Hey Kent – thanks for the follow over at my blog. I’m splitting an extensive blog into two as I’ve notice that I stick pretty close to two very different topics. I look forward to reading your posts. I’m interested in your indi publishing. I’ve done the same with one short book. It was fun to write and publish but I’ve not done a thing with it since. Good luck!

  8. Looking forward to reading some of your work. Remember that everyone can improve their writing, but your personal style of writing makes your writing unique and you don’t want to change that. Peace be the Botendaddy

    • Yeah, his entry into writing is really inspiring, and Wool is nothing short of brilliant. All about class warfare and the setting as a device to illustrate that is nothing short of brilliant

  15. Very brave and admirable that you’d leave your embarrassing work up as a curio and marker of progress. I think many writers/ aspiring writers don’t realize the work of editing and the years of growth that create great writers. Good for you!

  17. Thanks for following! When I find time -as soon as possible- I will read your story’s chapters that you added on your blog. Good luck on your writing journey! Also, sci-fi is good for expanding to the imaginations of Earthlings. 🙂

    • Thank You So Much! Right now I’m a really busy trying to work out the kinks of paperback publishing…but may I offer an observation? I’ve seen dogs that have been abused freely love those who abuse them. That’s a strength of heart and love that I have yet to find in a human, and for that reason, I’ll always consider our mutt friends to be one of the wisest teachers I’ll ever learn from!

    • Shoot me some questions! I’m pretty reliable about answering them through these comments, but sometimes they get swamped and I miss a few. If it’s anything private, you can always DM me on facebook. Happy to help! 🙂

      • Thanks so much! I guess, first off, what’s your background in? Did you study creative writing in school? I often hear “write what you know” which rings true for me as I find when I write what I know, the process seems a lot more effortless and incredibly enjoyable. I studied business in school and then went on to take my yoga teacher certification. I find a lot of insights show up in my novel writing work which I find similar to your musing posts. I’m also wondering how long you’ve been writing for and what your writing process is. I’ll leave it there for now 🙂

      • I’m happy to answer your questions! I was never inclined to be a writer. I fell into it after a mildly storied life, one that emphasized the importance of thinking critically and solving problems. I apply this problem-solving to not just writing but all aspects of my life, which is how I came up with the marketing strategy that I use now. I think “write what you know” works up to a point, but unless you’ve lived like Hemingway, you’re gonna run out of anecdotes. I believe every experience allows a writer insight into human nature, and the deeper that insight, the crazier things you can write about. I, for one, have never been in a knife fight or piloted a giant robot. Yet my “problem-solver” persona comes to the fore and works out the possibilities in my head, trying to find the most thematically true and viscerally exciting iterations for each fantastical scenario. I’ve been writing fiction since early 2015. My writing process is influenced by Steven Pressfield’s War of Art (THE defining book on creativity if there is such a thing), which can briefly be summed up as, “Amateurs wait for inspiration, pros get to work.” I am very, VERY heavy on discipline when it comes to writing. I believe that an entrepreneur or an artist must ironically work MORE than they would if they had a boss; the reward is that they get to work on what they want. I like to read comics for quick accumulation of larger-scale premises, I’ll study Stephen King and Marcus Sakey for styling, and I’ll use movies/tv to learn thematic structure, as a one to two hour story’s themes have to be really tight. Hope that answers some of your questions!

  19. Hi Kent,

Thanks for following my blog. I love to see you swinging out and taking on being a writer! I have been a sci-fi geek myself since I was a young girl, although these days I mostly geek out on real brain science.

I look forward to reading more of your work.

    Cheers,

    Melissa

    • Thank You Melissa! I apologize for the current amateurishness of my samples; I’m currently in the middle of getting Echo 1 looked at and revised, so I hope to soon bring you a smoother reading experience. Thanks! 🙂

  20. Its been a while since you followed me. I haven’t been able to get back to anyone who commented or liked one of my blogs. So, thanks, a lot. Btw I loved the About and the plot of Echo. Awesome cover page thingy(I don’t know what its called ;b). And again thanks for the follow.

    • Thank You So Much!!! Yeah getting followers is tough, and I cringe at Echo 1’s current need of revision. The cover page is only my idea, and my illustrators really deserve the credit. (I’ll take credit for harassing them until they got it right, though. Hahaha!)
