If there is such a thing as a non-dual, omnipotent, omniscient divinity that comprises everyone and everything, then being agnostic (not claiming to knowing whether it exists or not) may be the purest expression of its being.  Because if it IS non-dual, then it encompasses believers and non-believers alike.  And if it IS omnipotent, then it doesn’t need me to champion it, evangelize it, or defend it.

So where does that leave me? 

It leaves me with the basics.  Enjoy what’s happening.  Do the best I can with what I have.  Be nice to people.  If divinity truly is non-dual, omnipotent and omniscient…

The rest is taken care of.

    But isn’t that what makes Heavenly Father who He is? He encompasses everything. (I’m a believer if you haven’t noticed😁). He’s omnipotent and omniscient and that’s all He wants is for us to love one another as we love ourselves. Now, how people have twisted the message over the centuries is what sours others view on the concept of God. And yes, in the OT He smites and seems dictator more than loving parent, but in NT that what JC changes. But that’s my two cents.

        I believe the common thread between OT and NT is that you can bargain with the future for a positive outcome by sacrificing short-term gratification.
        The innovation of the NT is that JC implies you can redeem the collective by sacrificing yourself. I totally see that as being practically applicable (personally) while cutting through all the outward events which are morally debatable (don’t wanna be willing to sacrifice my kid like Abraham, even as a test of faith)

        Yep, no problem! I’m a practical-minded guy, and until a few years ago, I was too immature to see the practicality in Christianity due to all its faults, but there’s a good reason why as of yet, people haven’t thrown the baby out with the bathwater. There are really solid, practical modes of behavior nested in Christian philosophy.

        hi there ,yes i see what you are saying ,and that is exactly what you are sacrificing as a test of faith. your gratification is Isaac. Which begs the question ,is it immoral to deny or be prepared to deny one self pleasure/pride. it appears you have already answered the question 😁 kindest regards bg 🙂😎🙂

        I actually don’t think morality comes into it; I think it’s just a possibility that presents itself. Certain pleasures can be used to bargain with the future (interchangeable with God in this context) for a positive outcome. As far as pride…I think in the long-term, it’s fairly useless. It may help solve the initial problem of providing motivation, but after someone simply gets into the habit of solving problem after problem after problem, it seems like pride—the idea of an identity based on past accomplishments—can get in the way if an unexpected problem presents itself. “I’m THIS, so I shouldn’t have to engage with this specific type of problem,” or something along those lines. All just my opinion.

      Well as I said, I could take it or leave it; I’m of the opinion that if He exists, he’s inseparable and subsequently, we’re caught in a “no-lose” game.

      We also exist as individuals, though, not just as God, and the basics of religious/mystical guidance—be nice to each other, be diligent with whatever you work with, be trustworthy, be of service, pay attention to the present moment, etc. etc.—are ways to make the intermediary part of the game something very fun and worth playing. Or, we can be pieces of crap and the game won’t be so fun in the middle. We can throw a tantrum or revel in the experience.

      But in the end, yeah—I think we’re in a no-lose game. I think it’s all taken care of.😊

    In a nutshell, I concur. Although, I tend to lean more toward atheism than agnosticism after years of living a life of ultra evangelicalism – is that even a word?

    That’s pretty much where I’m at, too. I do believe that there is “more” than just us. In my opinion, there are too many myths and legends that suggest the existence of a higher power/being/whatever. As mentioned, some folks celebrate the existence of God in the form of religion and ritual. I don’t necessarily see a problem with that (bigger discussion for this thought). I just think that the best way to celebrate being part of a divine “more” is to be the best you can be and learn all you can so that, if you do “return to the maker”, you have as much as you can to offer to it/him/her. I say this because I often wonder at the possibility that we are, as individuals, created to do just that… live and learn… then return that knowledge to that higher existence. Omniscient or not, I wonder at the possibility that we are, at the least, a means to confirm thoughts and ideas of that infinite knowledge. Or maybe not omniscient (way beyond us, though)… and we are truly vehicles for testing or gaining knowledge. Maybe we’re just dreams or simulations?

      Even that model parallels the religious—an all-powerful being (God/the gameplayer) purposefully limiting itself (incarnating as humanity/entering VR) so it can have a blast (works in mysterious ways). I think it resonates now because it’s relevant to the times. 🙂

      Most empowering (and uncomfortable) position you could ever take. Good on you for taking it; it gives me hope for the future when I see people adopting it, rather than sticking to dogma.

    I agree. How does it matter whether God created man or man created God? As long as you are working to be the best person you can be, the rest is immaterial.
