From what I’ve seen, a sound grasp of tactics is essential to accessing a wider range of strategy. In an analogous manner, on the personal level, I believe that a sound grasp of certain fundamentals—discipline, open mindedness, attention to detail, etc etc—position one to be able to make use of audacity, and take those seemingly magical leaps that remain out of reach to the less prepared.
Pithy and, to my mind, quite accurate. Love the phrasing “position one to be able to make use of audacity” — I’ve never really thought of boldness in comparison with foresight and foundation, but it makes perfect sense.

Yep, it seems people get trapped in rote discipline or wild tries. But the people who get things done over a consistent basis seem to be able to do both.
