The other day I was wondering: What is this obsession with acquiring and hoarding brand names?

Instead of pining after brands, why not become one?

  1. Actually, the idea of branding yourself isn’t unheard of. There’s even a business called “BrandYourself” which is an Online Reputation Management company helping businesses and individuals outrank negative search results with their own content and websites.

This is just ridiculously common amongst members of the younger generation!

    1. Yep! Sometimes its warranted, but brand appreciation at the expense of functionality or producing your own stuff seems like a dangerous trap to me.

  3. You are so right. One time I used to ‘collect’ labels of whatever brand i wore, from perfume to clothes to shoes. I had to ask myself if I could sell all that paper… I threw them away and I felt better. On to making me a brand

    1. Right on! I am not averse to nice meals or clothes or whatnot, but as soon as they interfere with my life or I have to sacrifice other expenditures so that I can buy luxuries, I try to be know whether it’s an indulgence or not, and if it is, to REALLY enjoy it and not just have it be an addiction. 🙂

      1. Thank you, Buddha, we need to preach that gospel. Only that some people’s lives would practically be over if they didn’t have a brand name to gloat about

      2. Well, I think that they’d THINK that their lives would be over, but I’m just indulging in semantics, yes I see your point! 🙂
