Musings

I’ve seen those at the top of their field-from elite soldiers to actors to financiers-go crazy and start running guns/medicate themselves to death/etc.  I’ve seen the wise ones avoid this by pursuing new hobbies/endeavors.

And I’ve realized that upon climbing one peak, it’s necessary to start up another.  The purpose of hobbies/work isn’t to amass sprawling, complacent leisure, but to escape from toxic, mind-numbing stagnancy.

  1. That’s what I love about playing guitar, there is always another song to learn. Another style to try, it only gets old if I let it. Must apply this to reading to, Always a different story, author, genre to explore! You make a person think dude!

    • At a certain point, I believe the perception of “peak” and “climb” fade away. Before and after enlightenment the monk chops wood but I do believe that movement and change must be perpetuated to stay in harmony with the universe. After all, the universe itself perpetually moves and changes

      • Nothing is stationary, I agree with you. But whether the movement and change an be correlated or not, I am not certain. I believe in a simpler assumption. Progression. If you are an F1 driver, 370 km/h might be the limit for you and the rest of the world. But you believe in movement or change, you would have to either move to speed-boating or Try something new like driving in reverse. If you believe in progression, you would want to enhance your technique, shorten your time even more, try to take your every turn more perfectly. And when you have achieved that, you would want to progress even further.
I agree that the universe moves and changes. But there are infinite ways of defining “movement” and “change”, progression being one of them.

      • I like how in-depth you go with it and I feel there is definitely an endless well of investigation we could dip into…haha! But I think the key phrase is what you said at the end: There are infinite ways of defining “movement” and “change.” And so it is with all words. I find that this is the beauty and peril of spiritual discussion; words will fail to illustrate the truth and often as the discussion deepens both parties realize they are talking about the same concepts, and that’s what I intuit here. BUT, it is fun tossing responses back and forth anyway! It’s part of the refinement of understanding.
