Dirty Sci-Fi Buddha is the website for me: author Kent Wayne. The site name comes from the subject material in my early pieces of writing.
Three works are featured. The first one is a series called Echo, a science fiction dystopia where a disillusioned warrior pushes his craft to its bloody limits, then attempts to break through into a realm of world-bending mastery. I’ve finished this four-volume series, and I’ve also posted some free sample chapters, click here to start reading.
To buy Echo Volume 1: Approaching Shatter on Amazon click here: Buy Echo
The second book is a high school adventure, full of profanity, psychedelics, and interdimensional shenanigans. Here’s the link for the book on Amazon: Kor’Thank: Barbarian Valley Girl. Sample chapters are available here: Sample Chapters for Kor’Thank: Barbarian Valley Girl
I’m working on a YA fantasy called the Unbound Realm, a three-volume series. I’ve finished books one and two, and I’m working on the third. Here’s a link to volume 1: A Door into Evermoor and here’s a link to volume 2: Weapons of Old Here are some sample chapters: Sample Chapters for the Unbound Realm.
Thanks for your interest! If you’re a writer, I wish you inspired drafting and insightful editing! Best way to reach me is by DMing me on Facebook. However, I have noticed some DMs getting filtered out by Facebook messenger, so if I don’t respond, just comment on my wall. I’ll take it down, DM you, and address your concerns. Sorry to all those who never got a response; I wasn’t trying to be rude! 🙂

Really love that you’ve made your first work available even though as a writer you are a bit embarrassed by it now! As a writer starting out it’s daunting and terribly intimidating how talented everyone else out there is so I appreciate someone saying “Hey I’ve come a long way – see for yourself!”

Thank You! In the beginning I fought off the itch to constantly revise my works, but I’ve decided that would hurt my attempt to be prolific. Stephen King’s first novel Carrie is kind of a cool marker that shows how his writing style has evolved over the years. Thank You!!! 🙂 🙂

Hello Kent,
I contacted you a couple of months ago but was unsure whether you got my email, so i’d like to give you an updated version. Recently the site has gone through some very exciting changes. It has been redesigned and given a total new look, so this email reflects that.
I am writing to you to firstly say, i am a big fan of your site. I think your posts are unique, splendidly written and a very interesting read. I came across some of your writing after you liked something on my site: theprestopost.com, a while back. You have a very appealing curiosity about many different things, which is something i share with you. It is underappreciated writers like you, that i hoping to connect with.
I have recently created the Presto Post, which publishes articles and media on a wide range of topics. It is a combination of news aggregation, opinions, discussions and helpful articles. There is a blog section, as well as content on business, travel, nutrition, fitness, philosophy, education, happiness, tech and so on. I want it to be an international hub of fascinating reads, material and resources, but unlike other sites out there.
My vision of it is a global platform that delivers powerful information to readers, and one that anyone can benefit from. Videos, media and guest blogs from opinionated, interesting people. I also have plans to develop some sort of discussion/forum function and a detailed news feature. Think the Huffington Post, but better. A cleaner look, more easier to read, but featuring equally-valuable content and focused almost exclusively on the readers. That is, all of the content will have some purpose to it. Each story will have a story behind it. If you are an avid reader, i also have a book section, in which we will discuss books, review them and dissect ideas and theories past, present and future. Here, there will be stories, poetry, recommendations, notes and hopefully friendly debate 🙂
I guess what i want to see, is a site where writers, thinkers, creatives and readers come together and share their work in the same way we see it happening on social media. There are so many great thinkers and writers, like yourself, who do not have the exposure they so need and deserve. The Presto Post will be that platform that gives voices to these people.
The reason i am telling you this Kent, is because i would really like you to contribute to the site in some way. I resonate with your writing, your broad interests and admire your style. It can be any format you like, eg, a weekly blog, book review, daily thoughts, short pieces, or anything that interests you. Life, health and the mind are probably my biggest passions and its a part of the site i really want to push – This is what people will benefit from the most. You could even share some of your favourite articles, or online reads as part of our RePressed section, which i talk about below.
You write about something that i am fascinated by – Sci-fi. In addition to being fascinated, i am also pretty clueless. But i think that is what science does – it gives us more questions than answers. It’s like we know less and less, so to speak. Science and mystery are the things that drive us everyday. They’re the thing that makes the world go around, not money 🙂
I believe, and you may or may not agree, that if everyone could read a little more, understand our purpose in life a little better and do what they genuinely love to do – the world would be a better place. And that is the mission of this site – To connect people and share knowledge for the benefit of the one family that lives under the skies.
The only thing that is holding us back is this lack of knowledge. That is, the habits we have, thoughts we think and what we do on a daily basis. By building a site that is formed by its readers and passionate writers like yourself. We could have the same effect social media has had on the world by bringing something totally unique.
If you take a look a the site ( link at bottom) and have a look at some of the categories, you will see a range of content which i hope will give you an idea. Here are some articles that may be of interest to you:
http://prestopost.org/my-favourite-philosophers/
http://prestopost.org/dont-try-to-learn-first-learn-how-to-learn/ – Learn How To Learn
https://prestopost.org/2016/05/24/a-few-thoughts-on-creativity/ – A Few Thoughts on Creativity
http://prestopost.org/why-we-need-to-pay-attention-to-space-travel/
Also if you have time, check out our ‘RePressed’ section: http://prestopost.org/category/repressed/ This is where we share our favourite articles, what we’re reading and any other interesting things from the web, we then link it back to the source.
The site is currently not generating any profit, but as it gets bigger i will utilise ads that are specific to the customer, maybe even ask our readers to choose the ads. I want the writing to be done from the heart, just for the sake of helping and informing others, not for anything else. You probably know that monetizing such a site will take time but can be done, so in this instance, if you are interested i ask for your patience. Once traffic grows, more advertisers will be interested, which will mean sustainable revenue.
If you write for The Presto Post you will be one of my first writers and i believe together we can potentially create something amazing, surpassing The Huffington Post, Reuters and Facebook. Not by replicating them, but by doing something totally different.
My main focus right now is to partner with writers, artists and creatives and build a ‘core’ team of passionate people. These people will have a big say on how the website will be in the future. Creativity and passion are exactly what drew me to your work.
Imagine if you could look back in 10 years and say you were part of the original team? Kent, I think this is an opportunity not to be missed.
I look forward to your reply and thank you so much for your time in reading this message.
Kind Regards,
Jai

Sorry for the late response, Jai! Sometimes wordpress puts stuff in my spam box and I don’t know why, and then it goes unnoticed. Right now I’m incredibly busy knocking out my book series, but I am totally happy to support your efforts in non time-intensive ways! I ‘m heartened by your optimism and adventurous spirit, as I’m trying to bring that into my own work! Let me know if you want something specific from me and I’ll try to offer something that will fit your needs as well as my schedule. (If it doesn’t fit both our standards perfectly, I’m sure we can alter the parameters to make something of value, as we are both creative people) I wish you the very best of luck Jai!!! 🙂

I have written about 25 chapters. I find it tough to make the dialogues flow and at times, it sounds a bit forced. a little help will be really appreciated
LikeLiked by 1 person
Okay, this is just what works for me: Take dialogue that you love (for me it’s usually comic book stuff), and see the beats, pauses, rhythms of how characters introduce premises and express philosophy, and apply it to your own work. I know; easier said then done. Practically, it will require you to examine a page or exchange multiple times to see how the author structured it. Try to find dialogue that is similar in feel to what you are trying to write. Also, edit edit edit edit. I calculate that I read/edit my manuscript around thirty times before its ready for publication. Hope that helps! And good luck! 🙂

I have just one more query. What should be an average Chapter’s length? Mine has about 1700 words and I feel it is kind of short!
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ve seen all kinds—some are as big as 11k words, some are as short as one sentence. I think as long as you complete a contained arc that develops the story it should stand. Most try to keep it at 3k words, which translates to ten pages. I think the more you edit, the more you’ll get a feel for what feels right. Hope that helps! 🙂
