We have to endure a certain amount of compromise, a certain amount of suffering, but is that why we’re here? Are we born so we can flaunt our grit and determination and our ability to bear increasingly bigger crosses?

If you enjoy that, then by all means do it. But I think enjoyment is key; my brief stay on an inconsequential mudball in the blackness of space seems kind of wasteful if I can’t enjoy myself.

  1. The suffering is not in vain friend. It is designed to expand our heart consciousness so we may give more love and compassion to others. That is the lesson. Although never easy, I do relate to your articulation of this horrible blue marble.

    1. I agree. But there are some folk who apparently think otherwise. Usually misguided religious folk who think we are here to suffer.

      1. It’s crazy how religion is supposed to mitigate suffering, but it often gets used as a rationale for the opposite.

  3. Interesting word choice, Dirty Buddha! Bearing crosses offers-up the Christ analogy and mud ball in empty space offers-up the meaningless void. I enjoyed!

  4. I think it depends on your frame of reference. If you believe that this life is it, then absolutely, I agree. If, however, you believe that there is a soul that is here to learn and then use those lessons to transcend to another level of existence, then the suffering on a random mudball in space may have a purpose after all.

I know people with each belief, or some variation thereof. For myself, I’m not really sure what I believe these days. *shrug*

  5. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 I laugh at every chance and enjoy everything I can.

    1. Exactly. That tells us to rejoice, not be miserable, unlike how some people interpret the Bible.

  7. We’re born to have fun, love, be creative, and have a career we embrace. Our happiness will snowball to other people.
It’s the only way the world can become a better place.

  9. Yeah, my motto is, “If it isn’t fun, why are we doing it?”

    1. Good motto! Why are we here, anyway? I doubt it’s supposed to be a slog where we keep putting off our enjoyment for a supposed reward at the very end or afterward

Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles… Shakespeare was right; it really is THE question, jajaja
