I can exercise superficial discipline, where I force myself to do something, bemoaning and hating it the entire time (I’ve operated this way for most of my life), but there’s a higher discipline that serves me better, one where I consistently seek the easiest-feeling pathway of thought (with negative emotions, this feels like relief. With positive emotions, it’s simply a matter of abiding in the positivity).
This higher discipline can be applied at any time, under any condition. It amplifies my efforts by infusing my outlook with acceptance and focus, allowing me to spot opportunity with my expanded perception. When it’s all said and done, it turns my “discipline” into play.
If you have to invite discipline you’re throwing the wrong party.

yeah but discipline’s the funnest drunk. Pour a bottle of whisky down his neck and watch him jiggle. I’d sour the start of the party for a big payoff at the end.

That’s the way. Navigating the Ocean requires constant adjustment, but there’s a time for going with the current (or tide).

It’s kind of why, after a life of meatheadedness, I started giving a nod toward emotional intelligence. Younger me would have laughed in present me’s face, but whatever, lol.

They either laugh or shake their heads and think ‘Poor old guy,’….
Mind you when you get into your 60s / 70s you can look back at yourself and think….’Klutz’ (I do…frequently…🙄)

It’s all about your attitude toward things. Bending the negative into the positive. Easier said than done but it all takes exercise.

Indeed! It does get easier with practice, I feel.

Careful! You might accidentally fall into the path of gentleness. No discipline required. HaHa
