IMHO, one should never get hooked on having a boss, leader, or teacher. They’re only there to offer you advice and support so that in the long term, you will experience the glorious privilege of not needing them, and the dubious honor (and enormous headache) of possibly having to be one.
…and you shouldn’t count on them staying in one place or in one mode either — was hired by a charismatic leader who quickly peeled off and was succeeded by an exceptionally other type…

Good point! Yeah—sometimes they get weird and even though they had something to offer in the past, it’s unhealthy to keep following them.

Amen! Couldn’t agree more. Some leaders are born and some are made. The followers should find their own way to lead just in case they get stuck without an instructor.

Yep! And in most cases, it seems to be an inevitability that the followers get stuck without an instructor at some point or other.

Aaah – but a good teacher does not lead, they assist.

Indeed! “Teacher” is a misnomer when you really dig into it.
