Musings

Nature often follows the course of least resistance. ย As humans, we can do that as well. ย But as humans, we are offered an infinitely more tantalizing possibility:

To follow the path of most fulfillment.

  1. Is that path always right?

    1. Unless your fulfillment is at the expense of others, why would it not be A right path? One could also posit that the path of least resistance could be a path of fulfillment for some.

      1. Isn’t every choice something that changes others?

      2. Good point! I guess there’s a spectrum to be taken into consideration: Will my choice probably cause needless harm? On that end we can safely say we probably shouldn’t follow that road. In more ambiguous circumstances, we’d have to go by best judgment on a case-by-case basis, always making sure we stay flexible enough to respond to change and maintain our best intentions in a practical sense.

      3. Flexibility is necessary.

      4. Yes! Along with constant vigilance, as they say in Harry Potter. Obviously the cores of religions are typically good and sensible, but because of lack of flexibility and peoples’ unwillingness to reevaluate, I believe that’s what causes much of the mess we see today.

      6. I suppose that depends on how much stock you put into “the butterfly effect”. In those that are somewhat close and more to you, sure I would think there could be effects due to your life choices. It’s up to you, though, to be mindful of your life choices. Consider that those you surround yourself with are part of your choices and your fulfillment.

      7. The butterfly effect. I think that story shared a profound philosophy. Ripples from rocks dropped in a life go on and on. I,myself, always think of what I am doing. Someday, I might forget to think and walls will fall.

      8. Indeed! I recently found out that a majority of our body’s mass is made up of microorganisms that aren’t what we would define as “us.” Crazy to think what kind of ripples happen on the atomic levelโ€”how those iterate into observable phenomena.

      10. Yep…I like to toy with the concept that we are just ideas transmitted through matter and light.

      11. Good point! However, I’d argue that you have to keep on eye on the path of least resistance in order to make sure that it doesn’t turn into unfulfilling hedonism. (or maybe hedonism fulfills you, in which case, great!)
