Can discipline be a trap? Absolutely. I myself have fallen victim to stale, tired routines. But the core of discipline—the ability to turn down instant gratification and give genuine consideration to uncomfortable possibilities—is ESSENTIAL. The traps of the world are baited with hollow pleasures and packaged, lazy thinking.
The discipline to see past those glitteringly false premises and sweet gratifications…that’s a necessity of becoming fully human.
I’ve heard that meditation only really begins when we’re ready to get up and walk away. Discipline is often all that’s left to hold on to. Needs a better word though… ‘Discipline’ smacks of something regimented and unyielding.

Better is subjective among words…I believe one of the goals of meditation is to see past the illusion of conceptual subjectivity. 😉

But what if you can’t find discipline within the routine?

Then that’s why there are so many options; we were put here for our short lifetimes to explore and come up with some novel and unique expression of truth and functionality. 😉
